Shelby Abernathy is a mixed-media artist based in Western North Carolina. Guided by intuition, she embraces the variety in her work, blending traditional and experimental methods to create dynamic collages, printed editions, paintings and drawings, digital illustrations, and one-of-a-kind artist books. Her abstract and process-driven work often features expressive mark making, organic and geometric forms, and repurposed elements from previous pieces.

Shelby's work is layered, both in materials and meaning. She draws inspiration from dreams, memories, personal symbolism, relationships, nature, and music. Influenced by Jungian psychology, mythology, and astrology, her work creatively investigates the human psyche and the stories we carry.

Shelby earned her BFA in Studio Art with an emphasis in Printmaking from Appalachian State University, and her work has been published and exhibited throughout North Carolina.
